Easy Apple Pie in Just 5 Simple Steps

Easy Apple Pie in Just 5 Simple Steps

We love apples and October, National Apple Month, is a great time to enjoy this delicious and incredibly good-for-you fruit. Apples may be best known for their fiber, but they also contain healthy levels of potassium, manganese, copper, Vitamins C and K and more. They are heart healthy and good for the gut, the brain and even your bones.

This incredibly simple recipe for a Five-Step Apple Pie is from our apple-growing friends at Riveridge Produce Marketing . Headquartered just north of Grand Rapids, in Sparta, Michigan, Riveridge represents one-half (nearly 200 multi-generational family-owned orchards) of Michigan’s fresh apple crop.

And our apples for this recipe came from New-England based JP Sullivan & Co. , a packer and shipper (that is part of the Riveridge family) of fresh apples grown in the Eastern U.S. McIntosh apples are particularly fond of the Eastern U.S. climate – and those dynamics give them their taste and aroma. Enjoy the fresh flavors of fall with this Five-Step Apple Pie.

Five-Step Apple Pie

Ingredients for pie filling:
  • 1 pkg. (9 oz.) Jiffy pie crust mix
  • 7 cups Macintosh apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon (Grate in FinaPod GT)
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg (Grate in FinaPod GT)
  • 1 Tbsp. butter, cut into small pieces
  • 12 oz. of caramel apple dip
Ingredients for caramel dipping sauce:

Five-Step Directions:

1. Prepare pie crust according to package directions for 2-crust pie. Place bottom crust in 9-inch pie dish.

2. Combine apples, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, cinnamon and nutmeg in large bowl. Toss gently to evenly coat apple slices. Spread filling evenly over bottom crust. Dot with pieces of butter.

3. Moisten edge of lower crust lightly with water. Cover with top crust, trim and flute edges. Cut 3 slits in top crust for venting.

4. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and bake 40 to 45 minutes or until crust is golden and apples are tender when pierced with a fork. (To prevent over-browning, cover the edge of pie crust with foil. Remove during last 20 minutes of baking.)

5. Serve warm pieces of apple pie drizzled with Caramel Apple Dip just before serving. Heat dip to drizzle easily.

Directions for Caramel Apple Dip:

1. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter, salt, and heavy cream, stirring until the mixture is smooth and the brown sugar has dissolved.

2. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it cook for 3 minutes without stirring—stirring can cause the sugars to crystallize causing lumps.

3. Once it starts to resemble a smooth creamy caramel, remove the pan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
